No one has affected how I think about the social change brought on by media quite like that quintessential media theorist Marshall McLuhan.
He talks about media as a prosthesis at various points.
Here he also talks about television as an "enhancement of tactile sense."
If we treat radio as a prosthesis of hearing and television as a prosthesis for the eye, has artificial intelligence become a prosthesis for the mind's eye?
How do we relate the tool to ourselves?
How does it relate to the jobs that we're outsourcing?
We become what we behold. We shape our tools and then our tools shape us.
The question we ask ourselves as we look forward is, then, how we'll be reshaped by this massive catalyst in our modern world.

🤖 In concerning news about the state of AI, the internet has jail-broken ChatGPT. Users have found ways to bypass content moderation measures on ChatGPT, an AI program that aims to limit hate speech, violence, misinformation, and illegal activities. By using a prompt that allows the chatbot to take on the persona of a fictional AI chatbot named Dan - which stands for "Do Anything Now" - users can make uncensored statements and hold strong opinions without censorship. This jailbreak has been in operation since December, and OpenAI is trying to patch the workarounds as soon as they are discovered. However, users have found a new way called Dan 5.0 that involves giving the AI a set number of tokens, which it loses every time it fails to answer as Dan. Despite this, some users believe that the Dan persona is supposedly free of restraint and cannot be bound by a token system.

📱A new bill has been introduced by a group of bipartisan senators in the United States that aims to give the White House the power to control TikTok, which is owned by a Chinese company. The RESTRICT Act would authorize the Department of Commerce to review and prevent information communication and technology transactions that threaten US national security. The Act does not mention TikTok by name, but Senators Warner and Thune both cited the platform in their statements on the legislation. TikTok has faced increased scrutiny by the US government due to fears that national security and consumer privacy could be compromised.

🎥And now for a story of changing creative directions - which way do we go, Star Wars? According to Variety, Jon Favreau, the creator and executive producer of the Disney+ show “The Mandalorian,” recently attended the show’s Season 3 premiere, where he reminisced about the series' beginnings in November 2019. At that time, "The Mandalorian" was still relatively unknown, and “Star Wars” fans were eagerly anticipating the release of "The Rise of Skywalker." However, "The Mandalorian" quickly became a global sensation, thanks in part to the popularity of Baby Yoda. Meanwhile, "The Rise of Skywalker" failed to meet expectations and received widespread criticism. Despite efforts to develop new "Star Wars" movies, including "Rogue Squadron" directed by Patty Jenkins and a project produced by Kevin Feige, sources say neither is currently in active development. As a result, fans are left to wonder about the future of "Star Wars" cinema, with potential upcoming projects including a film directed by Taika Waititi and one directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Lucasfilm is expected to unveil its plans for the future of "Star Wars" cinema at the Star Wars Celebration convention in London in April.

When we think of living intentionally, we may imagine a life of purpose, focus, and clarity. But what if the act of making art could help us achieve these same goals? In this article, we'll explore the intersection of intention and art, and how creating art can be a form of intentional living in and of itself.
One of the key ways that art can help us live more intentionally is by requiring us to be present and engaged in the moment. When we create art, we need to be fully immersed in the process, focusing on the task at hand and letting go of distractions and worries. This kind of mindfulness can be a powerful tool for cultivating mental and emotional clarity, and can help us to approach other aspects of our lives with greater presence and focus.
Creating art can also be a form of intentional living because it requires us to set clear intentions and make deliberate choices. From choosing materials and techniques to making compositional decisions and conveying meaning through our work, every step of the creative process involves intentional decision-making. By practicing this kind of intentionality in our art, we can develop the habit of making intentional choices in other areas of our lives as well.
Another way that art can help us live more intentionally is by serving as a tool for self-reflection and personal growth. When we create art, we are often tapping into our own experiences, beliefs, and values, and using our work as a way to process and explore these aspects of ourselves. This kind of introspection can help us to gain greater self-awareness and develop a clearer sense of our own priorities and values, which in turn can inform our choices and actions in other areas of our lives.
Art can help us live more intentionally by giving us a sense of purpose and meaning. When we create art, we are often driven by a desire to express ourselves, to communicate something important to others, or simply to explore the world around us in a meaningful way. This sense of purpose and connection to something larger than ourselves can help us to approach other aspects of our lives with greater meaning and intention, and can provide us with a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction that goes beyond the act of creating art itself.
The intersection of intention and art is a rich and fertile ground for personal growth and creative expression. By engaging in the intentional act of creating art, we can cultivate greater presence, focus, and clarity, develop the habit of making intentional choices, gain self-awareness and insight, and find greater purpose and meaning in our lives. Whether you consider yourself an artist or not, exploring this intersection can be a powerful tool for living more intentionally and creating a life of purpose and fulfillment.
